Designed for paralegals and legal assistants who have completed the University of Nevada, Reno’s Paralegal Studies Certificate Program or who have more than one year of applicable law office experience, Legal Research for Paralegals and Legal Assistants hones research, documentation and reporting skills, providing tools and techniques that can be applied immediately in the workplace.
Legal research skills will be developed inside and outside the classroom through online and library practice. Course participants will gain experience conducting research using legal search engines including Westlaw and LexisNexis, as well as websites, indexes, digests, updating services and other methods to access information. Research outcomes will be emphasized through research strategies, plans, memos and citation practice. Course participants will receive a subscription to Westlaw and LexisNexis for use at home and in the classroom for the duration of the six-session course.
